His role at Lufthansa also entailed the creation and implementation of risk assessments and concepts for the continuous development and optimization of worldwide warehouse handling processes; as well as contributing to the design and further development of the European Customs Code and related implementing regulations and legislation.
Prior to holding the position of Senior Manager for Customs & Regulatory Affairs, Mr. Klein held a variety of positions at Lufthansa including handling intelligence processes & IT; data exchange for customs, handling agents, forwarders, and other airlines; and quality assistance manager.
Throughout his career, Mr. Klein has engaged closely with international organizations and regulatory bodies to contribute to the evaluation and development of customs matters. He has been a representative on EU Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union (TAXUD) committees such as the Customs Code Committee and the Customs Work and Customs Task Force. He has also been members of several working groups within the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and served as the representative for The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) at the World Customs Organization (WCO) and DG TAXUD.
