U.S. Calls for Increased Air Passenger Information Sharing in Eastern Caribbean

Ramping up efforts to counter transnational criminal organizations and strengthen border security in the region,  U.S. Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Larry Palmer, called on the U.S.’ Caribbean partners to take increased advantage of advance passenger information (API) sharing capabilities in the air travel environment.  Barbadian Attorney General, Adriel Brathwaite, agreed that a collaborative approach in identifying high risk air travelers and interdicting potential threats is imperative. There’s been an increased focus on ramping up API sharing with respect to terrorist threats and curbing the flow of foreign fighters seeking to join the Islamic State, but as the United States’ “third border”, the importance of partnerships in the Caribbean should not be overlooked.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), along with its U.S. interagency security partners, continues to refine its Advance Passenger Information System (APIS). Every additional resource of credible information from both public and private sector partners enhances the APIS capability to strengthen global security.
