Government Technology Services Coalition Hosts Even with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to Provide Insight on CBP’s Vendor Needs

U.S. CBP Officials gathered in D.C. on April 29th to discuss its near and long term needs from the contracting community. Given continued budget constraints, innovative solutions that save the agency time and money are more important than ever. Officials encouraged attendees to familiarize themselves with CBP’s ‘Vision and Strategy 2020’ document and to anticipate the agency’s needs. These include technologies that: support a mobile workforce; track travelers’ exit from the U.S.; reduce the number of man hours needed to scan cargo and vehicles; and expand automated processes in both the trade and travel environments.

Officials also encouraged contractors to find creative ways to work with CBP, such as a willingness to test technologies through smaller-scale pilot programs, and to also engage with Congress for help in finding efficiencies in the procurement process. It is also important for contractors to get products and services listed on the GSA schedule so that the agency can quickly procure them in times of emergency.
