The 2014 trade and travel statistics recently released by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security show increases over 2013 levels in the areas of: international travel to the U.S. (374 million people +4%), containers processed at U.S. ports (25.7M +4.5%), total value of trade processed ($1.6 trillion +4%), and revenue collected ($34B +2%). Average wait times at the top 10 U.S. airports were down 13%.
These figures can be in part attributed to the expansion of trusted-trader and trusted-traveler programs that use advance data to manage risk, as well as the expansion of automated processing technology for both cargo and passengers.
